Ordinations to the Subdiaconate

Saturday 28th January saw the ordination of seven young men to the Subdiaconate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary.

The future Subdeacons processing into the chapel holding a candle in their right hand, and, hanging over their left arm, the tunicle and maniple in which they will later be vested.

The candidates prostrate themselves before the altar.

Br. Martin Mary, F.SS.R. was given the great privilege of cantoring the Litany of the Saints with one of the other seminarians, which can be seen in the video below.

The camera used to film the Litany would not go beyond ten minutes per clip, so there is a small jump in the middle where a new one was started.

the tradition of the instruments to the Subdeacons, who touch the cruets...

...and the chalice.

The amice is pulled over the head.

The maniple is given them to reverence,

and finally they lay their right hand upon the Epistolarium, from which they will now chant the Epistle at a Solemn High Mass.

May God make them all good and holy priests!

Thank you xx

Just want to thank those of you who have emailed myself & Jilli regarding our DT call. My word you are all so talented! it's going to be a difficult decision that's for sure.
We haven't had an email from any boys, so I can say that we will have 3 new Saturday Girls joining us very soon!
Three of you will be emailed by the 5th Feb, and once we have had a reply from each of you, we will announce our new teamies on this blog shortly after :)

Thanks again! xx

#304 - Action

A good wide topic for you this week! What do you make of action?

Would you like to be a Saturday Girl?

This blog post is dated to stay until the deadline for our DT call.
For our latest challenge (#192 sponsored by The Craft Barn) please scroll down or click here. Thank you.

Would you like to be a Saturday Girl?.... or maybe a Saturday Boy?

We are looking for 3 new design team members to join Sketch Saturday! :)
Initially on a 3 month trial, with a view to a permanent position we hope.

What is required:

You MUST have your own personal blog and be prepared to post each week.

You must be able to make a card each week, and upload it before midnight (UK time) on the Friday before the challenge goes live.
You will get the sketches well in advance, so you will have plenty of time to create.
You can use any craft materials you like to make your DT work (except copyright protected images of course),
The only 'rule' is that you stick as close as possible to the sketch, but of course artisitc licence plays a part and is welcomed, you don't have to be 'spot on' but the sketch design needs to be recognised within your work.
You must post about our challenge on your own blog each week, leaving links to SS and to our sponsors on all posts.

You must be prepared to leave comments for challengers, currently 1 challenger in every 10, although you are of course allowed to leave comments for more should you have the time to do so.

You will be expected to take a turn hosting a DT week.
DT weeks are the first Saturday of each month, when it's your turn, we want you to make your own sketch for the challenge, arrange a sponsor, and arrange the guest designer (GD) too. You will be expected to type up the post for this week.
DT week is only for one week, but your GD will be with us for the whole month, so would be expected to make a card for each Saturday in the month that you are DT host. You are responsible for uploading your GD's cards each week before the deadline.
You must also type up the winners post the following week after your DT week, and arrange for your winner to receive their prize from your sponsor.

Sketch Saturday is a challenge blog like any other, and we are happy for our DT to be members of other challenge blog DTs too.
We expect ALL of our DT members to treat SS with the same respect as others.
If you are currently on other DTs then please apply to join us if you want to be a part of our team too, however, if it is going to be a problem for you to make a card for us if you have deadlines and/or rules from other DTs to keep to, then please do not apply if there is a possibilty that SS could be pushed to one side so that you can make your card for another challenge blog instead.
It's only fair to the other SS DT members.
Saying that, real life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes, and if you need time out from all crafting for a while, that's no problem, we will cover your commenting while you take a break.

If you would like to join Sketch Saturday, please email myself (Jo) and Jilli with THREE of what you consider to be your favourite card/projects to date as well as telling us a little bit about you as a crafter.
Please don't send just photos, we need to see the individual BLOG POSTS
But no more than 3 please.
DO NOT just give us your blog address, we can look through your blogs anyway, we only want specific blog posts please.
Our email addresses are in the sidebar >>>

Deadline for applications is 28th January, if selected you will be notified by 5th February, and we would like you to make your first DT card/project for challenge #195 - 18th February.
We look forward to receiving your emails! :)

Jo & Jilli xx

WELCOME BACK TO SPIRITUAL SUNDAYS

I am so excited. 74 people shared with us past week. That is the most we've had in several months. I'm glad more and more people are discovering this place of sharing. Some who have not shared in awhile have "come home" to share again. When we have so many links it is hard to visit every one of them. It is always Wednesday or Thursday before I finish reading all of them, and then it is time to

Deep Silence, Mutual Listening, Continual Prayer

Deep Silence.
Silence is an integral element of communication; in its absence, words rich in content cannot exist. In silence, we are better able to listen to and understand ourselves; ideas come to birth and acquire depth; we understand with greater clarity what it is we want to say and what we expect from others; and we choose how to express ourselves.

Mutual Listening.
By remaining silent we allow the other person to speak, to express him or herself; and we avoid being tied simply to our own words and ideas without them being adequately tested. In this way, space is created for mutual listening, and deeper human relationships become possible.

Thus the Pope speaks to us about the internet, blogging and social communications. We are involved in Internet communications. We hope that our sites also breathe religious silence.

Silence

The latest edition of our newspaper Catholic is in the post.
It opens the subject of continual prayer.
I invite you to subscribe to this newspaper and read quietly
- away from Internet, in deep listening silence -
about the continual prayer.

Fr. Michael Mary, F.SS.R.

Attention should be paid to the various types of websites, applications and social networks which can help people today to find time for reflection and authentic questioning, as well as making space for silence and occasions for prayer, meditation or sharing of the word of God.
Pope Benedict XVI.
24 January 2012.

He who prays is certain to be saved.
He who does not pray is certain to be damned.
All the elect are in heaven because they prayer.
All the damned are in hell because they did not pray.
St. Alphonsus

Thank you Jeanette xx

Sad news to tell you all,
Jeanette has sadly decided to leave our design team, I know it was a difficult decision for her to make and she will be greatly missed from the team.
Jeanette joined Sketch Saturday from the very beginning, so she has been inspiring us all for over 3 years. Did you know that Sketch Saturday was the first design team that Jeanette joined? What a honour for us :)
I'm pleased to say that she isn't giving up crafting altogether, so you will still be able to see her beautiful work on her fabulous blog.

Jeanette, Thank you so much for all you've done for SS over the years.
We'll miss you, and wish you all the very best in your future ventures.
Lots of love, The girls xx

DOMINUS EST - It is the Lord!

Most Rev. Athanasius Schneider, O.R.C.,
consecrated bishop on 2 June, 2006, is
Auxiliary Bishop of Maria Santissima in Astana,
Kazakhstan.

Relying on accurate history and good theology,
the author of DOMINUS EST makes a plea for a return to distributing
Holy Communion to kneeling communicants on the tongue —
the practice now restored at papal liturgies by Pope Benedict XVI.

The book written by Bishop Schneider
is available in English.

Dominus Est – It Is the Lord!
Preface by Cardinal Ranjith.

Originally published in Italian by the Vatican Press,
this book offers readers insights into the sacrality
which ought to surround the distribution
and reception of Holy Communion

The book comes with the endorsement of the then two highest officials
in the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship
and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

Padre Pio is on the mend.

Padre Pio in bad shape to the south.

This is the sight that greeted us after
the Immaculate Conception Hurricane
8 December 2011.
The wind speed had been registered at 138 mph
on Mainland Orkney.

"Padre Pio" our boat and implement shed had been well secured
but the pressure of the wind, laden with humidity,
blew its doors in and out.

The north eastern door was blown over the top of the shed
and stayed there.

While the north western door blew inwards
and onto the bonnet of a vehicle.

Quite a worry.
A howling wind tunnel.

Thanks be to God and Fr. Anthony
it's back in place again,
straightened out and patched up.
Hanging!
And ready for another storm!

Deo gratias!
and
Thank you, Father!
