#75 - The End

No, it's not the end of Sunday Scribblings. The prompt this week is "the end."

And I (Laini) want to apologize to Meg and to all of you for my linking issues this summer -- I have been traveling for five weeks and was often without internet access, so I often couldn't be much help getting your links up. BUT. . . I'm home now (yay!) and I promise to do better. Faster linking, starting now!

I also have a very exciting announcement to make! When Meg and I started this site last year, my motivation was to get myself writing new and different things -- and it really worked! I wrote stories, and I loved some of them. And my husband/illustrator Jim and I got the idea to propose a collection of three of them to some publishers as an illustrated book for young adults. Well, I am so thrilled to announce that we have just sold that book, Goblin Fruit to Arthur A. Levine Books, an imprint of Scholastic. Yayyyyyy!!! It is comprised of two long short stories and one novella, each of which began life as a prompt HERE. The prompts were: "real life," "music," and "the monster." The stories are creepy, sensual, supernatural romance for teenagers and the book will be fully illustrated in the manner of a classic fairy tale book. So, a BIG tip of my hat to writing prompts, and to this wonderful community of scribblers. Yay! Thanks to all who've participated for the past 75 weeks!

#73 - Dear Diary

The prompt for this week is: Dear Diary.

Shhhhhhh... are your secrets deep and dark or wistful and whimsical? Do you have a character that you need to flush out by writing some diary entries? Is there something your twelve-year-old self wants to say? Do you have a silly secret crush? What needs to be written in a beautiful book and locked with a tiny gold key?

For the glory of God and of His Holy Mother

We have begun work on a wall for our pier. However, this will be no ordinary wall. It will have shrines running along the inside of it. The first will be for a statue of the Immaculate Conception. This is a long term project.

Tradition pushes forward

Following on from the feast of our Holy Father, Saint Alphonsus, we would like to take this opportunity to announce the growth of our humble congregation, which now begins to spread its arms around the world. Indeed, we have chosen, a very northerly location for our Congregation, but this outpost of tradition on Papa Stronsay must now become a motherhouse, as we send our forces to the other side of the world, and south. For many years, since Rev. Fr Cummins, C.SS.R. stopped visiting, the South Island of New Zealand has been without the regular celebration of Holy Mass. In fact, until recently, the faithful there could receive the sacraments only once every two months. They now receive a visit from an SSPX priest once every month, but we must all agree that this is hardly satisfactory. It is for this reason that we would like to make known the new foundation of Transalpine Redemptorists in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The properties for the church and monastery are in the final stages of changing hands, and with a little work, will be ready to receive the first Transalpine Redemptorist missionary priest, and two brothers, to serve the faithful traditional Catholics of the South Island of New Zealand. We hope that this news will bring you as much joy as it has brought us, and that it will bring great glory to God, and to our Holy Father, Saint Alphonsus, whose rule and congregation we are trying to preserve unsullied until the consummation of the world.
Our Mother of Perpetual Succour, Our Holy Father Saint Alphonsus, and all the Saints of the Redemptorist Congregation, Pray for us.

Visitors

In the summer we often receive visits from our dear friends from different parts of the world. Here Mr & Mrs Karlsen from Sweden are pictured in front of the Monastery gate. Mr Karlsen is a SSPX representative in Scandinavia.

Mr Michael Schneider from Baden Baden, Germany teaches Br Roman some culinary secrets.

Here the community is pictured with our German friends, Rev Fr George Kopf of the SSPX,
Mr Michael Schneider and Klaus Kohler.

See you again on Papa Stronsay...
